Teachers and Trainers in Vocational Education and Training (VET)

Aims and Objectives

As a sub-cluster of the 'Teachers and Trainers' Cluster, the main aim of this Focus group is to deal with issues relating to VET teachers and trainers and to organise Peer Learning Activities (PLAs) in different countries.

The PLA is an action-learning process which has triggered reflections on the models used at home. It is focussed on finding solutions to common problems in group discussions and finding new strategies when developing and changing the VET systems. Participants' feedback to their ministries, and social partners on learning outcomes of the PLA feed into (re-) designing of training programmes for VET teachers and trainers.

Since the beginning of 2006, the group has met eight times and has organised three peer learning activities:
  • in 2007 in Vienna (AT) on "VET Partnership between Schools and Companies – the Role of Teachers and Trainers";
  • in 2008 in Lisbon (PT) on the "Validation of non-formal and informal learning for VET Teachers and Trainers";
  • in 2008 in Bled (SI) on "VET teachers as change agents towards the autonomy of VET schools".
Next PLAs will take place in Germany (May 2009), Italy (June 2009) and Iceland (December 2009). Their purpose will be to focus on different aspects of teachers' and in-company trainers' professionalisation.
